India registered a dominant seven-wicket victory over
Zimbabwe in the opening T20I at the Harare Sports Club, snapping a tough
seven-match winless streak and securing Shreyas Iyer’s first win as India’s
T20I captain.

After winning the toss, Iyer elected to field on a surface
offering decent bounce. The decision paid off immediately as returning express
pacer Mayank Yadav made a sensational impact, striking with the very first ball
of the match. Mayank (2/18) alongside Prince Yadav (2/19) dismantled Zimbabwe’s
top order early. Despite a middle-order fightback from Wessly Madhevere (39),
the host side was restricted to a modest 125/7 in their 20 overs.
Chasing 126, India suffered an early blow when opener
Abhishek Sharma fell cheaply for 1. However, 15-year-old sensation Vaibhav
Sooryavanshi completely turned the game into a one-sided affair. Sooryavanshi
launched an astonishing assault, smashing an 18-ball half-century—the fastest
by an Indian teenager in T20I history—featuring four boundaries and four
towering sixes.
With the platform set, captain Shreyas Iyer anchored the
remainder of the chase with an unbeaten 28. Alongside Ishan Kishan’s brisk 35,
Iyer comfortably guided the team home with more than six overs to spare.
The victory marks a crucial turnaround for Iyer’s leadership stint following previous series setbacks against Ireland and England. India now leads the three-match T20I series 1-0.
