Australian cricket is bidding farewell to one of its most
enduring figures. Former Australia all-rounder Moises Henriques has officially
announced his retirement from Australian domestic cricket, bringing a legendary
20-year career to a poignant close. The 39-year-old veteran finishes as
Australia’s most-capped domestic cricketer across all formats, boasting 426
appearances.

Over two decades representing New South Wales and captaining
the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League, Henriques accumulated over 13,000
runs, claimed more than 200 wickets, and lifted 14 domestic titles. The
decision arrived after the Sixers chose not to offer the three-time
championship captain a new contract. Out of loyalty to his long-time team,
Henriques declined offers from rival clubs.
While his time in Australian domestic cricket has concluded,
Henriques is far from done with the sport, as his next chapter features
exciting global assignments. Born in Funchal, Madeira, Henriques is switching
his international allegiance to play for Portugal, where he will headline their
squad in the upcoming T20 World Cup qualifiers.
Additionally, the veteran all-rounder remains open to playing in overseas franchise cricket leagues. Off the field, he will transition into administrative leadership, continuing his legacy by serving as a director for the Cricket NSW Foundation.
