Former England batter and veteran tactician Jonathan Trott
has officially joined the Ireland men's national team as a short-term coaching
consultant. The appointment will see the highly regarded coach spend 14 days
with the squad, directly supporting strategic preparations for their upcoming
high-stakes One-Day International (ODI) matches.

This consultancy role serves as a crucial building block for
Ireland as the team prepares for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier in
early 2027. Trott's primary focus will be advising the players during the
opening matches of the series and helping the squad refine their overall
50-over tactical plans.
His arrival is a massive strategic boost, given his deep
familiarity with the opposition. Having served as the head coach of Afghanistan
until February 2026, Trott possesses unique, current knowledge of their players
and playing style. He will use this insider perspective to help Ireland map out
precise game plans and counter specific threats.
Beyond analyzing the opposition, Trott will work closely with Ireland’s coaching staff to share his extensive international leadership experience and team management philosophies.
