England star Jos Buttler added another monumental
achievement to his storied career, surpassing West Indies legend Chris Gayle to
become the second-highest run-scorer in T20 cricket history.

The landmark moment came during a game in The Hundred at
Lord's while Buttler was representing the Manchester Super Giants against the
London Spirit. Heading into the match needing just a handful of runs to
overtake Gayle’s tally of 14,562, Buttler crossed the milestone with a brief
16-run knock, pushing his career T20 run total to 14,572 across 487 innings.
Gayle, long celebrated as the ultimate powerhouse of
short-format cricket, now sits third on the all-time list with 14,562 runs in
455 innings. Buttler’s ascent reflects his remarkable longevity, versatility,
and evolutionary shift from a middle-order finisher early in his career to one
of the most destructive opening batters in modern cricket history.
In the all-time T20 run-scoring standings, West Indies
legend Kieron Pollard still leads the world with 14,803 runs, with Buttler now
following close behind at 14,572, Gayle in third with 14,562, and England’s
Alex Hales occupying fourth place with 14,449 runs.
With this accomplishment, Buttler now sets his sights on the top position held by former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard. Trailing Pollard by just over 200 runs, the 35-year-old English wicketkeeper-batter remains well-positioned to eventually claim the ultimate throne in T20 run-scoring.
