Ajinkya Rahane, one of Indian cricket's most selfless and
dependable stalwarts, has officially announced his retirement from all formats
of cricket. The 38-year-old veteran posted an emotional message on social
media, signing off with his Test cap number, "Cap 278".

Over a distinguished career spanning more than a decade on the international stage, Rahane represented India in 85 Tests, 90 ODIs, and 20 T20Is, scoring over 8,000 international runs. Known for his flawless technique, calm composure, and exceptional slip catching, Rahane was at his finest when conditions were toughest. His memorable centuries at Lord’s, Melbourne, and Wellington remain etched in Indian cricket folklore as masterclasses in overseas resilience.
Beyond his batting prowess, Rahane’s finest hour as a leader
came during the iconic 2020–21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Stepping up as captain
after a disastrous opening Test in Adelaide and in the absence of key players,
he guided a depleted Indian side to a legendary 2-1 series victory in
Australia. Under his quiet yet resolute leadership, India never lost a Test
match.
In domestic cricket, Rahane led Mumbai to a Ranji Trophy
title in the 2023–24 season and capped off his competitive playing career in
the 2026 Indian Premier League, leading the Kolkata Knight Riders.
As Rahane hangs up his boots, Indian cricket bids adieu not just to a brilliant middle-order batter, but to a true gentleman of the game who consistently put team success ahead of personal milestones.
