Australia’s National Selection Panel has officially named a
13-player squad for the upcoming two-match ICC World Test Championship series
against Bangladesh. The squad is headlined by the long-awaited reunion of
Australia's core bowling attack.

Captain Pat Cummins makes his return to the side following a
layoff since late last year, joining fellow marquee fast bowlers Mitchell Starc
and Josh Hazlewood, alongside seasoned off-spinner Nathan Lyon. Lyon returns
after recovering from a hamstring injury, while seam options Scott Boland,
Cameron Green, and Beau Webster provide additional balance and depth to the
bowling unit.
With veteran opener Usman Khawaja recently stepping away
from international cricket, selectors face a key top-order decision. Jake
Weatherald has retained his spot in the squad alongside aggressive option
Travis Head, making them prime contenders to form the opening partnership. The
middle order remains anchored by core stars Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne,
and wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey, with Josh Inglis offering further
versatility. Meanwhile, players like Michael Neser and Todd Murphy have been omitted
from the previous Test group.
Currently sitting atop the World Test Championship standings, Australia will kick off the home series in Darwin before heading to Mackay for the second Test. The upcoming matches mark the beginning of an intense 12-month schedule featuring 20 Test fixtures across multiple major tours.
The two-match Test series will commence with the first Test match in Darwin (Aug 13 to Aug 17) and the second Test match will be played in McKay (Aug 22 to Aug 26).
