Southern Brave Men finally got their Hundred campaign up and
running, defending a modest total to seal a thrilling 12-run victory over
Birmingham Phoenix at the Utilita Bowl. After dropping their opening three
fixtures, the home side showed remarkable resolve to keep their knockout
qualification hopes alive.

Opting to bat first on a challenging pitch, Southern Brave
struggled to build momentum against a disciplined Phoenix attack led by Rehan
Ahmed (3-25). However, an explosive late-order knock from Marcus Stoinis—who
top-scored with a 26-ball 34—dragged the hosts to a competitive total of 128
for 8.
The small total proved more than enough as Brave’s bowling
attack stepped up to turn the tide. Stoinis set the tone early by picking up
two vital top-order wickets while conceding just 16 runs from his 20 balls.
Despite a steady effort from Will Smeed, the Phoenix middle order crumbled
under pressure.
Pacer Luke Wood delivered the decisive final blow, taking 3-24—including a clinical final set where he conceded just one run—to restrict Phoenix to 116 for 9. The hard-fought victory snaps Brave’s losing streak and shifts early momentum back in their favor.
