Harare - Bangladesh’s ongoing tour of Zimbabwe has suffered a massive
blow with star opening batter Litton Das officially ruled out of the remainder
of the One Day International series. The experienced wicketkeeper-batter failed
a crucial fitness test in Harare, ending hopes of a quick recovery and leaving
the team's top order severely vulnerable.

Litton originally sustained a left calf muscle injury during
a home series against Australia. While the medical team initially hoped he
would heal in time for the final two games, a recurring hamstring complication
has completely derailed his recovery. With fixtures scheduled back-to-back,
team management confirmed that the right-hander has not made sufficient
progress to achieve full match fitness. Litton is now set to fly back to Dhaka
immediately to begin an intensive rehabilitation program.
The timing of the injury could not be worse for the
visitors. Bangladesh currently trails the three-match ODI series 1-0 after a
shocking batting collapse in the opening match at the Harare Sports Club, where
they failed to chase down a modest target of 141. Litton’s absence leaves a
gaping void of experience at the top of the order just when the team needs
stability.
In his absence, the national selectors have drafted young, left-handed opener Parvez Hossain Emon into the squad. Emon faces a trial by fire as he joins a desperate batting lineup fighting to keep the series alive. Bangladesh must win the final two matches without their premier opener if they want to escape Zimbabwe with a series victory.
