The ICC Men’s T20I rankings have a new leader. Following a
dominant and clinical home summer, England has officially dethroned India to
claim the No. 1 spot in the global T20I standings.

The historic shift was solidified after England completed a
resounding 4-0 series victory over the visiting Indian side. The exclamation
point came in the fifth and final T20I at Southampton, where England registered
a massive 56-run victory. Captain Harry Brook and a rejuvenated Jos Buttler
tore the Indian bowling attack apart, putting together a record-breaking
233-run partnership. Buttler smashed a magnificent 131, while Brook hammered an
unbeaten 95 off just 45 deliveries, powering the hosts to an insurmountable
total.
With this triumph, England successfully brought an end to
India’s staggering 1,605-day streak at the top of the T20I rankings—a historic
run of dominance that had stood unbroken since February 2022.
While England celebrates their ascent, India’s slip to the
No. 2 spot marks a challenging transitional period. Despite their previous
successes, a young Indian squad under Shreyas Iyer endured a brutal United
Kingdom tour, going completely winless after a 2-0 defeat to Ireland and the
subsequent 4-0 routing by England.
As the dust settles, both powerhouse nations sit tied at a 268 rating. However, thanks to their flawless execution and ruthless consistency throughout the series, England edges ahead on fractional decimal points to rightfully claim the crown as the best T20I team in the world.
